I’ve never been a big fan of monogamy. At 48, I’ve come to accept the fact that I’m simply not the kind of man who will settle down and get married. There are many men and women who feel the same way. Most of us unmarried folk are not the lonely, pathetic losers we’re made out to be in movie and on TV. We live full, meaningful lives without entering into committed, monogamous realtionships.
In that respect, marriage equality is not a personal issue for me. I could live the rest of my life in a place that outlaws same-sex marriage and it really wouldn’t impact me. I could simply say, “It’s not my problem.”
However, it is my problem. Here’s why.
I want to be unmarried because that is my choice — not because I am forbidden by law to do so.
Today — October 29, 2008 — if someone were to ask me why I’m not married, I can answer, “Because I choose not to.” Next week, my answer could be, “Because it is against the law.”
Proposition 8 takes away my freedom to choose. It takes away a fundamental right that has been guaranteed by the Supreme Court of California.
I believe that fighting for a right that is not exercised is just as important. Those who do not speak in public must fight for our freedom of speech. Those who are nonreligious must fight for freedom of worship. Those who believe in freedom and justice for all must fight for marriage equality.
Vote NO on Prop. 8. The rights you protect could be your own.
Today is Write to Marry Day, a national day for bloggers to join in opposing California’s Proposition 8.
The goal for Write to Marry Day is to generate 200 posts about why it’s essential to preserve the right to marry for gay and lesbian couples.
If you’re a blogger, take a few minutes and write an essay about what marriage equality means to you and the people you care about.
If you haven’t yet donated money to the No On 8 campaign, you can do so here.

There was a time in my life, when I didn't think I wanted to marry again...but then I met the right guy and suddenly did want to try again!!! It was the right choice and I'd want the same CHOICE for anyone I love, gay or straight...simple, but true.........
