Obamicon.Me is a cool website where you can make your own Shepard Fairey Obama-style poster.

The more I fume about Obama’s selection of an anti-gay bigot to give the invocation at his inaugural, the more I regret voting for him. Check out the latest on Warren’s outrageous and ignorant views on homosexuality in the clip from The Rachel Maddow Show.
It is beginning to look like the change Obama was talking about was changing the Bush nightmare back into the Clinton era. Equality for LGBT people and other progressive issues will not be addressed for at least several years. The war in Iraq will continue for three years or more. Universal health care will probably never become a reality. Obama is pandering to the religious right. Do you feel as if you’ve been thrown under the bus?

My friend Glen sent this to me today:
One sunny day in 2009
One sunny day in 2009 an old man approached the White
House from across Pennsylvania Avenue , where he’d been
sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said,“I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr.Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The old man said, “Okay” and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the WhiteHouse and said to the same Marine, “I would like to goin and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I saidyesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longerresides here.”
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White Houseand spoke to the very same U. S. Marine, saying “Iwould like to go in and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, lookedat the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in arow you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush.I’ve told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer thepresident and no longer resides here. Don’t youunderstand?”
The old man looked at the Marine and said, “Oh, Iunderstand. I just love hearing it.”
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said,“See you tomorrow.”
What a grade-A asshole! Our president is an embarrassment. He has zero class. He has no concept of deportment. He received one of the highest insults possible in Iraq and he responded by trying to make a joke about it.
Here’s the translation of what the man shouted as he threw the shoes:
First Shoe:
“This is the gift from the Iraqis — this is the farewell kiss you dog.”
Second Shoe:
“This is from the widows, the orphans and those killed in Iraq.”
Yeah, Iraqi widows and orphans are something to joke about. They’re something that our president can shrug off with a simple “So what?”
Bush must be charged and out on trial for war crimes. He is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians. They were blown to bits for nothing — a war based on lies and motivated by profit.
Since the passage of Prop. 8 in California, many people have been trying to figure out how we can protect minorities and other disenfranchised groups from the “tyranny of the majority.” One idea that has been floating around the blogosphere is a new and improved Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), designed to protect not only women but other classes if people who risk being having their rights taken away by popular vote.
Here is my version of the new ERA:
Section 1. Equality of rights under the law in the United States shall not be denied or abridged by the on account of:
- Gender
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity
- Immigration status
- The disbelief or denial of the existence of God or gods
- The choice not to practice a religion or creed
- DNA or genetic differences
Section 2. The United States legislature shall have the ability to give additional classes of people protected status with a simple majority vote.
Section 3. The United States legislature shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 4. No law, policy, executive order, ruling, constitutional revision or amendment shall be passed at any level of government which prevents a protected class from enjoying full access to civil law or the constitutional protections.
In addition to women, immigrants, LGBT people, and those with genetic disorders and differences, my ERA would protect Americans from religious zealots who want to turn this county into a theocracy.
Section 2 would give Congress the ability to add other classes of people to the list when it becomes necessary.
What do you think? How would you write a new ERA?
Want a free Obama sticker to celebrate our victory? It’s designed by Shepard Fairey, the artist who created the iconic HOPE poster. And MoveOn’s giving them away totally free—even the shipping’s free.

On Sunday, I attended a rally at Monterey’s Window on the Bay that was organized by the local Democratic Club and No on 8. About 250 supporters of Obama and opponents of Prop. 8 showed up to hold a joint rally.
During the rally, between 25 to 30 McCain supporters arrived to give a counter demonstration, heckling us with slogans such as “B.O. stinks” and “Go back to Russia!” And, those McCain supporters began to leave shortly after the No on 8 folks showed up in force. A few I spoke to as they were leaving said they didn’t want to protest a No on 8 rally.
The rally lasted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with huge crowds holding Obama and No on 8 signs.
So, I was somewhat shocked when the local Fox affiliate ran the following story:
The story should have focused on the number of people who showed up to oppose Prop. 8. Instead, the reporter said that both supporters and opponents of Prop. 8 were there. That’s not true. There was one — and only one — Prop. 8 supporter very early on. He left after about 30 minutes. There was only one other person holding a Yes on 8 sign and he picked it up from the ground (I have photos showing that to be the case). You will notice in the video not a single Yes on 8 sign is shown. That’s because there weren’t any!
The story should have been “Hundreds of Obama supporters and opponents of Prop. 8 joined forces today in Monterey…”
Instead, Fox News was deliberately deceptive. They focused on the few McCain supporters and marginalized the No on 8 and Obama supporters who were there in much larger numbers.
If you want to see what was really going on at Window on the Bay, check out my Flickr set for the event.

You will clearly see that only a handful of McCain supporters showed up to make their presence known. This was obviously an Obama/No on 8 rally — NOT a shared event between Democrats and Republicans.
I don’t know how Fox gets away with simply inventing stories like this. They went out and took video of what was obviously a huge turnout for both Obama and No on 8 and made it seem as if there was equal representaion by the opposition. That’s a lie — a total fabrication.
On Sunday, my friends Glen and Cliff and I attended a political rally at Window on the Bay in Monterey, California. It was a combined effort between the local Democratic Club and No on 8. The Obama rally began at 11 a.m. and overlapped with a No on 8 rally that began at 1 p.m.
Most of the people came early and stayed for both events — which really ended up being one big rally for both Obama and No on 8. Some Obama folks were holding No on 8 signs and vice versa.
The event was an educational experience for me. I have attended several No on 8 rallies. This was my first Obama rally. What shocked me was the overt racism and aggressive tactics used by the Republicans who showed up to counter demonstrate.
Just minutes after I arrived, I heard someone shout from a passing car, “White power!”
There was just one lone Yes on 8 supporter across the street. This has been typical of the No on 8 rallies at this location. However, a crowd of about 30 McCain supporters attempted to crash our rally!
They marched up on us and began to chant “B.O stinks!” Then, they began heckling us with “terrorists” and “go back to Russia!”
I asked the Democratic Club organizer if their rallies always draw hecklers like this. She answered that they did.
Anyway, here are a bunch of photos from the event:
Prop.8 is unfair, unnecessary and wrong. Find out why Californians are voting no on Prop 8 here.
Neutral observers say the Prop. 8 campaign has been untruthful and grossly misleading. Find out more here.
Nearly every major newspaper in California, and groups representing teachers, nurses, seniors, business and labor, oppose Proposition 8. Read the current list of opponents here.
Prop 8 would eliminate equal protections and put discrimination into our state constitution. Get the facts here.

Today, I went shopping all over town wearing my new Obama t-shirt. I found it on Overstock.com last week. Even though I have a couple of official Obama shirts that I bought from the campaign, I like this one better. It has that great big graphic on the front.
Everywhere I went, people shouted things like “right on” and “Obama!” Several people came up and told me how much they liked my shirt.
I didn’t encounter a single McCain supporter. Nobody even gave me a dirty look.
I can’t think of another time when something I wore got so much positive feedback — other than a few of my Halloween costumes over the years. People simply love Obama.
It is discouraging hearing all of the negative rhetoric coming from the McCain campaign on TV. If you want a good antidote to that, just put on an Obama t-shirt and go out in public.
Check out this homophobic video from MoveOn.org.
I guess they don’t know that “cock sucker” is an anti-gay slur.
What is even worse is that through clever technology,
they use my name in the ad. Too bad it backfired.
As a gay man, I don’t like being called a cock sucker.
Can you blame me? The part about not being welcome
in a church doesn’t really work for gay people either.
